What I Value

When we frame or value all men or women as being someone’s wife/girlfriend (husband/boyfriend), mother/father or daughter/son, what are we teaching the youth?

We're teaching them that in order to have the law, world, society or anyone on their side, they need to be loved by men or women. That they need to make themselves beautiful or sexy or even desirable to everyone in order to be worthy of protection. That their lives and their bodily integrity are value-less except for how they relate to the people they know. That they need to do these body modifications or slap on a load of makeup or skin care or do these diets for others and not for themselves if they wanted.

Truth is that I am someone’s girlfriend. In the future I will be someone’s mother. I am someone’s daughter, and someone’s sister. Those are not the things that define me, or make me valuable in this world though. Those are not the reasons that I should be able to live a life free from rape, sexual assault or any kind of violent crime.

I have value because I am a person. Full stop. End of argument. This isn’t even a discussion that we should be having.

So please, let’s start teaching that fact to the young women and men in our lives. Teach them that you love, honour and value them because of who they are, not what they do. Teach them that they should expect to be treated with integrity because it’s a basic human right. Teach them that they do not deserve to be raped because no one ever, ever, ever deserves to be raped. But most especially, teach them that they are people too.

Stay sassy,

Mon Chéri Cherry Red

Black jersey top with gold accent: thrifted, patterned skater skirt: Forever21
Boots: Dr. Marten 1460 Classics in Cherry Red

Hey ho my darlings!

Here's something I threw together today to do a little shopping with my love, nothing too special. Luckily the skirt's material is a bit heavy because it was a tad bit windy today. Also it wasn't freezing so I didn't need to put on a jacket! These boots though, man oh man. They were a birthday gift from my boyfriend. I almost cried when I opened up the box to these bad babes. I actually nicknamed them; the right one is Matilda and the left one is Olga.

I usually prefer skirts or a dress over pants any day which is pretty funny because when I was in high school I didn't like to gravitate away from wearing jeans. I was so conscious of my legs but I've learned to love them over time as should anyone. ;) Anyways that's all for now my dears!

As always, stay sassy.

Let's ring in the new year with good cheer
and tons of resolutions no one actually keeps!
So, yes. I have finally started my blog and hopefully I update it religiously.
I can't wait to share my ideas, tips, tricks and opinions on things.
I need to warn you guys though, expect me to use a lot of profanity in my posts.... its just how I am.
Okay? K.
Since its the new year, I'm going to make this entry about my reflection on 2013.

2013 was a great year for me despite the fucked up things that came along.
I became super sassy this year also joined the kawaii brothahood \m/ Hahahaha.
I met my boyfriend Anthony at an anime convention's rave in Sacramento, CA.
My eyes finally opened and I realized what I wanted to do with my life, which is to be
an esthetician and/or a voice actress. I traveled to different states besides Nevada which was
amazing! I finally moved out of my mom's place and my boyfriend and I bought a house, adopted
1 puppy and rescued another. I met amazing people as well this year but of course I had to let some go.
I got into a few quarrels with some people which was kind of the reason why I wanted to move out in the first place.

Anyways, I am seriously a VERY blessed girl and I can't wait for the blessings and challenges I'll be receiving this year.
I might post an ootd break down or a "What I Got For Christmas" post. So till then!

Stay sassy,
Moonsy
